Our tipster is backing Paul Heckingbottom’s side to triumph over Thomas Christiansen’s Whites in what could be a goal-laden local Championship clash

Barnsley welcome Leeds United to Oakwell at lunchtime in the Championship on Saturday afternoon hoping to move further away from the bottom three with a third win in five, whilst the visitors are looking to get back on track after an alarming run of seven defeats in their last nine league games.

The hosts need no motivation due to the club’s strong sense of rivalry with Leeds, but that ill-feeling perhaps isn’t reciprocated quite as fervently.

The siege mentality at Oakwell on these occasions has historically benefited the Tykes, who have been victorious in five of their last six league meetings with the West Yorkshire side and are 13/8 (2.63) with bet365 for more derby day delight.

The Whites have, on paper, the better squad and are 13/8 (2.63) for a ninth win of the campaign, while a draw is 23/10 (3.3) - but football has never been played on paper.

Each of Leeds’ last six games has seen both teams score, as have 65% of Barnsley’s encounters since day one, so the 4/6 (1.67) on a repeat holds appeal due to the quality on show.

Ezgjan Alioski has put in some good performances recently and is 10/3 (4.33) to score anytime, whilst joint-top scorer Kalvin Phillips is 4/1 (5.0) to add to his five-goal tally.

For Barnsley, Harvey Barnes is emerging as one of the brightest young wingers outside the top flight and is 3/1 (4.0) to score his sixth of the campaign, with top scorer Tom Bradshaw available at 15/8 (2.88) to bag in the 90 minutes.

Both those players were dropped to the bench when Barnsley lost 1-0 to Cardiff on Tuesday as Paul Heckingbottom made five changes, which suggests the manager wanted to keep his best players fresh for this game; in contrast, Thomas Christiansen named an unchanged eleven at Molineux on Wednesday where his side fell to a 4-1 defeat after Ronaldo Vieira saw red on the hour mark.

All in all, the 4/1 (5.0) price on a Barnsley win and both teams to score looks set to pay dividends as Leeds have scored in each of their last seven but have only claimed two wins in that time, whilst Barnsley have kept just two clean sheets all season.
