Bafana Bafana and Zambia to renew rivalry in an international friendly

The encounter is scheduled to take place at the Moruleng Stadium. Kickoff is at 19h00 CAT

Bafana Bafana will play Zambia in an international friendly match in the North West province on Tuesday, the 13th of June 2017.

The match will be South Africa's second since Stuart Baxter took over as head coach at the beginning of May.

Baxter's first match is away to the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifying campaign this coming weekend.

Having called up to 25 players for this camp, the friendly against Zambia at the Moruleng Stadium will afford the 63-year-old mentor an opportunity to assess the majority of his current players.

The two nations have a history having met on 17 occasions in the past. They won five matches each, while seven matches ended in draws.

Bafana last played Chipolopolo in January 2015, where a solitary goal by Thuso Phala was enough to hand the South Africans only their fifth win over the 2012 Afcon champions.

Zambian national team coach and former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Wedson Nyirenda, hasn't enjoyed his tenure as his team could only manage two goalless draws against Gabon and Zimbabwe in their last two international friendly matches.

They also played to a 1-1 to draw against Cameroon in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier towards the end of last year.
