Ayo Asekunowo praises Akwa United draw against Enyimba

Akwa United’s Ayobami Asekunowo has hailed his new team’s hard-earned away draw against Enyimba in Calabar on Sunday.

Asekunowo who completed his switch from Rivers United last week was on the bench against the People’s Elephant and he has described their away performance at the UJ Esuene Stadium as encouraging.

“I am enjoying my life at my new club and the point we earned against Enyimba away was no doubt a good way to start life with Akwa United,” Asekunowo told Goal.

“It was a very difficult match for us but we were able to deploy all that we had to ensure that we picked a point. We had left Uyo with high hope that we are not going to return empty handed and I am happy that we got something from the encounter.

“We shall go back home to prepare for our next league match knowing that we shall be on break this weekend after we might have face Kano Pillars on Wednesday in another tough encounter. We have to digest this draw first and hoping that we won’t return to Uyo back without anything.”

The defender wants his teammates to maintain the same tempo when they face Kano Pillars on Wednesday in a rescheduled league game in Kano.

“We are playing two tough games within four days and having got a draw against Enyimba we know that it won’t be easy to get another against Kano Pillars but we must go into the tie believing in ourselves that we can get a better result than we did in Calabar,” he continued.

“There are no easy games again and we must be ready to fight for the three points at stake in Kano. I want to be part of the new order here and I know that we can surprise Pillars though they are playing well now.”
