Taiwo Awoniyi and Kelechi Nwakali on target in Holland

The Nigeria youth internationals were on target for their clubs in the Dutch league playoffs on Wednesday night

Taiwo Awoniyi maintained his fine goal scoring form by netting the winner in NEC Nijmegen’s 3-1 victory over FC Emmen in the first round of the Eredivisie relegation play offs.

Gregor Breinburg and Jay-Roy Grot’s second half strikes cancelled out Alexander Bannink’s fourth minute opener for the JenS Vesting Stadion oufit.

Awoniyi who was introduced for Kevin Mayi on the hour mark sealed the first leg advantage for NEC after sinking his shot to the back of the net in the 88th minute.

The former Golden Eaglets forward has now scored in three consecutive games as Ron de Groot’s side prepare to host FC Emmen in the Goffertstadion on Sunday.

Meanwhile, promising Arsenal loanee Kelechi Nwakali ensured his Dutch side keep up their fighting spirit for promotion to the Dutch Eredivisie next season with a first half strike in MVV’s 1-1 draw against Cambuur.

Nwakali netted his third goal of the season after linking well  to a Ricardo Ippel’s cross in the 4th minute  but was short-lived by Sander van de Streek’s equalizer thirteen minutes later.

MVV take a trip away from the De Geusselt to the Cambuurstadion for their return fixture on Sunday.
