Aubameyang bags goal #27 to move atop Bundesliga scoring charts

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang regained top spot in the race for the Bungesliga top scorer award after netting in Borussia Dortmund’s 3-2 win at Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.

With biggest rival Robert Lewandowski firing blanks in Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw at Mainz on Saturday, Aubameyang took advantage as he came off the bench to net BVB’s second after Marco Reus’ opener was cancelled out by Lars Stindl, while a Marcel Schmelzer own goal gave the hosts the lead at a fully-packed Borussia-Park.

Shortly after coming on, Aubameyang cleverly peeled off his marker and latched into Ousmane Dembele’s delightful through ball and rounded Yann Sommer before converting from a tight angle to make the desired imminent impact.

The strike was the Gabonese forward’s 27th of the campaign as he returned to the summit of the Torjagerkanone race ahead of Lewandowski, who has 26 goals, and Cologne striker Anthony Modeste on 23.

Auba’s 27th strike came on his 28th appearance whilst Lewandowski and Modeste have played one and two matches more respectively.

However, it was Raphael Guerreiro’s 87th-minute header that sealed the three points and a return to third for Thomas Tuchel’s men as they made an impressive bounce back from their Champions League elimination in midweek and are now in pole position to return to the top table next season.

Guinea international Ibrahima Traore [above] also featured in the Borussia derby for Gladbach, making his 11th appearance of the campaign, and was replaced in the 71st minute.
