Atletico Madrid look to continue their unbeaten start to the season on Wednesday evening as they travel to San Mames to face an Athletic Bilbao side who suffered their first defeat of the campaign at the weekend.
The Basques conceded late on away to Las Palmas to lose 1-0 on Sunday and the result was a fair one given Athletic's lacklustre showing on the island of Gran Canaria.
The Bilbao outfit, however, are always considerably stronger at home and last season only Barcelona and Real Madrid managed to win at San Mames, with both of those victories coming by single goal margins.
If Athletic boast a strong home record then Atletico's away form is perhaps even more impressive with the side from the Spanish capital unbeaten on the road since December last year, a run of 14 matches.
Of those 14 games, nine of them have seen under 2.5 goals and a repeat is priced at just 8/15 (1.53) . While Atleti are experts at keeping things tight on the road, that price is perhaps a little too short for most punters so instead backing a goalless first half at 11/8 (2.38) could prove a more intelligent way of investing in a tight game.
This bet has paid out in each of Atletico's last three matches, and in the four competitive matches they have played on the road this term, Los Rojiblancos have only scored in the first half of one of those encounters.
Some other markets for consideration include backing a draw at half time which is offered at 19/20 (1.95) while opposing both teams to score (a selection which paid out in 13 of Atletico's 19 away league games last season) is available at 7/10 (1.70) .
