Ashanti Gold chief plays down Ghana Premier League title ambitions

Fred Acheampong talks about the Miners’ ambitions following a brilliant start to the domestic campaign

Ashanti Gold have emerged as early favourites for the Ghana Premier League title, but according the club’s chief executive officer Fred Acheampong, they are not aiming at that target.

The Miners sit top of the table after matchday five with 13 points following four wins and a draw.

The Obuasi-based side pulled off a shock on Sunday after defeating Kotoko 2-0 in the Asante Derby on matchday five.

“We are just taking each match at a time," Acheampong told Zylofon Sports

“We are not concentrating on winning the league, knowing where the club is coming from.

“The league title is not our prime target but we’re keen on landing a respectable position at the end of the season.

“Our guys are very determined to die for the club and we have also boosted our technical department by employing Danish John Christiansen as the technical director, who works hand-in-hand with head coach C.K Akonnor.

“When you talk to C.K Akonnor after each game, you realise he knows exactly what he is doing.”
