Arthur eyes Sharks scalp in Ghana PL outstanding fixture

The title holders’ striker is optimistic his club will defeat the debutants to claim their first victory of the campaign

Wa All Stars striker Richard Arthur is confident they will defeat Elmina Sharks in their matchday one outstanding game at the Malik Jabir Park in Wa on Wednesday.

The Northern Blues began their title defence on Sunday with a 2-1 defeat to Hearts of Oak, after their first two league games were postponed due to their involvement in the 2017 Caf Champions League. They were eliminated in the preliminary round by Libyan side Al Ahli Tripoli on a 5-1 aggregate.

Arthur, 22, insists they will return to winning ways and successfully defend their title this season.

''We're confident that victory will be on our side when we lock horns with Elmina Sharks in the outstanding league fixture on Wednesday," Arthur told Agyenkwa FM.

"I'm very optimistic that we'll win the game and appease the fans since we disappointed them in the Caf Champions League and lost to Hearts last weekend. We want the fans to remain calm and continue supporting us. We still have two outstanding matches to play,'' he said.

He added: "The supporters must continue to have trust in us because we will achieve success just as we did last season. There are major doubts that we can't defend the league title, however, I don't see it happening that way. We will continue to shock all those who doubt us."
