Algeria Football Federation negotiating Vahid Halilhodzic return

The Algerian Football Federation (Faf) are discussing the return of Vahid Halilhodzic to the national team.

Despite guiding Algeria to the World Cup knockout phase for the first time in their World Cup history, Halilhodzic stepped down from his post after three years. There were many passionate pleas for him to stay from fans and Algeria president Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Faf’s now confirming that they are talking to Halilhodzic. Faf president Kheireddine Zetchi said the former Paris Saint Germain coach is among a list of others they are negotiating with.

“There is no agreement with Vahid Halilhodzic for now. We are negotiating with him and with others,” Zetchi was quoted as saying by Algeria24.

Halilhodzic’s last job was with Japan, whom he helped qualify for the 2018 Fifa World Cup before he was surprisingly axed just two months before the tournament.

This followed after a brief stint at Turkish side Trabzonspor soon after leaving Algeria.

If brought back to the helm of the Desert Foxes, Halilhodzic will have the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as his immediate assignment and also the task of soothing a nation which failed to make it to the ongoing World Cup.
