Akwa United target victory against Go Round in Uyo, says Michael Ibe

Having struggled in recent games, the Promise Keepers man has revealed their mission against the Omoku Boys on Wednesday

Akwa United are aiming for maximum points when they face Go Round at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Wednesday, according to Michael Ibe.

The Promise Keepers were defeated 2-0 by El Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri last Thursday to stretch their winless run to five matches, but they would be anxious to get their campaign back on track against Ngozi Elechi's side.

With only three points from possible 15 in last five matches, the forward is confident his mates will come out with all gun blazing to take their pound of flesh against the top-flight newcomers in Uyo after an initial leg 1-0 loss.

"This is a very important match for us and we cannot afford to joke with it," Ibe told Goal.

"Our target is nothing more than a comfortable home win against Go Round. They defeated us at their home in Omoku 1-0 early this season and we must not take them for granted.

"We've had a rough and terrible form in our recent games but I strongly believe we can regain our winning mentality on Monday. We have not won any game in five matches and that brings us a lot of concern.

"We must start picking all available points in our subsequent matches, beginning against Go Round if we still want to finish among the top three. I believe we can do it with the quality players we have and the good spirit within the team."

Akwa United are eighth in the league log with 29 points from 20 matches, while opponents Go Round are 17th from 21 games.
