Akwa United fully focused on Aklosendi tie, says Michael Ibe

The Promise Keepers talisman has re-echoed his team’s determination to be fully ready for Aklosendi whom they will meet on Sunday in Enugu

Akwa United’s Michael Ibe has disclosed that they are fully focused on their next opponents, Aklosendi of Lafia in their Federation Cup Round of 32 and have forgotten about their exploits against Hope of Glory of Calabar in the previous round.

The Promise Keepers, who are the defending champions of the annual club competition, sounded a note of caution to their rivals in the competition this year after they pummeled Hope of Glory 7-0 in the Round of 64 last weekend.

Ibe, who had four assists in the game revealed that they are not carried away by the way they exploded against the Calabar foes but that they have set their sights on getting relevant information on Aklosendi to ensure they are well informed ahead of the tie slated for Enugu on Sunday.

He said they used their first fixture in the competition this term to pass a message across to others they are going to face in the future that they are not ready to part with the diadem they won last year at the expense of Niger Tornadoes.

“We had it so great against Hope of Glory and we were able to score some goals to scare off our future opponents,” Ibe told Goal.

“We know that no two games are the same and having been drawn against Aklosendi in the Round of 32 we want to concentrate on that tie and not think about the victory against Hope of Glory again. Aklosendi are in the National League and they will prove to be more formidable than our last opponents.

“We are fully focused on the Sunday game and are not distracted by the talk of what we did to Hope of Glory. We know that for us to win the Federation Cup again, we must be willing to play to the best of our ability and defeat our foes too.

“We have been preparing so hard and we are sure that God will crown our effort. We want to return Akwa United back to the continent and the only way remaining is through the FA Cup and we are willing to put our bodies on the line to achieve it.”

Akwa United finished second in the Nigerian top flight behind Lobi Stars in the just concluded season and thus narrowly missed out on the Caf Champions League ticket.
