Joseph Akpala leads Oostende to victory

The 30-year-old forward weighed in with a late effort to seal a win for De Kustboys

Joseph Akpala’s goal was all Oostende needed to secure a 2-1 over Club Brugge in a Belgian Championship title playoff on Thursday.

Yves Vanderhaeghe’s men got the lead through David Rozehnal on the half-hour mark but were drawn level by Wesley in the 72nd minute.

With eight minutes before full-time, Akpala got in on the act as he netted the winner to condemn his former side to a loss.

The goal was the ex-Werder Bremen marksman's second in 16 league appearances for the Versluys Arena outfit.

And they are fourth with 37 points in the six-team Championship playoff log. In their next encounter, they face Anderlecht on May 21.
