Boakye, Kanga fire Red Star Belgrade to Europa League victory

The Ghanaian and Gabonese combined in either half of the tie to hand the Serbian outfit a victory over the Czech First League outfit

Richmond Boakye and Guelor Kanga were on target in Red Star Belgrade’s 2-0 triumph over Sparta Prague in an Uefa Europa League third round qualifying encounter played at the Rajko Mitic Stadium on Thursday evening.

Ghana international forward, Boakye was on the end of a brilliantly executed free kick by Kanga in the 13th minute to open the scoring for the Serbian Superliga outfit.

Five minutes after the hour mark, the striker returned the favour when he laid the ball for his Gabonese counterpart who unleashed a powerful drive from the edge of the box which went in off the underside of the Iron Sparta's crossbar.

This victory puts Vladan Milojevic’s men in a healthy position - for a playoff spot - as they head to the Generali Arena for the return fixture on August 3.
