AFC Leopards cry foul as KPL postpones Gor Mahia derby

The match against K’Ogalo was to be played on Saturday at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, but was officially called off

AFC Leopards were set to take on rivals Gor Mahia for the third time this season on Saturday.

The two rivals faced each other during the KPL Super League where K’Ogalo won by a solitary goal, before playing again in the Hull Challenge where the Green Army triumphed 5-4 on the post-match penalties following a barren draw in regular time.

With the June transfer window around the corner, AFC Leopards was set to bag a handful amount from the derby, but that might not be the case. Secretary general Oscar Igaida says the latest developments have messed the team big time.

“The transfer window is about to be opened and we need money to sign players. We had planned to use part of the amount collected in the derby for the same, unfortunately this might not happen.

“We hope the match will be rescheduled soonest possible to help us get that money,” Igaida told Goal.

Ingwe has so far released three players after they failed to impress.
