Aduana Stars are the new Ghana Premier League champions following a 2-1 home victory over debutants Elmina Sharks in Dormaa Ahenkro on Sunday.
The Fire Club have opened a seven-point gap on top of the log with a game to spare.
Aduana could have been crowned last weekend when they thrashed Bolga All Stars 4-1 in Tamale but their celebrations were delayed as second-placed Wafa also hammered Wa All Stars 3-0 to close the gap to four points, but the latter couldn't keep up the chase as they were beaten 2-1 this time by Ebusua Dwarfs in Cape Coast.
Coach Yussif Abubakar maintained the line-up against Bolga but his side were stunned by an early opener from the visitors.
Benjamin Tweneboah connected a pass from his teammate by the 34th minute and finished off beyond goalkeeper Joseph Addo to put Elmina Sharks ahead.
Zakaria and Noah Martey worked out a beautiful effort by the 48th minute but Aduana goalkeeper Joseph Essam intervened, with Derrick Sasraku firing high three minutes later as the home supporters began to show their frustrations.
Aduana pulled level moments later when Rashid Abdul bent an effort from Noah Martey's free-kick, placing the ball beyond the reach of the Essam this time around.
With more threats from unrelenting Sharks, Sam Adams brought some relief when he scored the second goal for Aduana by the 78th minute, after Mumuni was brought down in the box and they held on to lift their second trophy and the first since 2009-2010 season.
Aduana will represent Ghana in the 2018 Caf Champions League.
