The latest call-up to the Malaysia senior team has also featured six Malaysia U22 squad members, who recently played well to help the Young Tigers qualify for the 2018 U23 AFC Championship as group champions, as well finish runners up at the 2017 SEA Games.

One of the six players called up is Selangor defender Adam Nor Azlin, who Goal earlier picked as one of the Malaysia U22's best performers in the SEA Games.

This is the second time the 21-year old has received a call-up to the senior team, with his first call-up in 2016, when he was still playing as a forward, failing to result in his first senior team cap.

Understandably, this time around, with Malaysia set to travel to Hong Kong for their Asian Cup qualification group match on October 10, Adam has set an individual target of making his Malaysia senior team debut.

"I hope this time around I will get to play, regardless as part of the first eleven or as a substitute.

"But to be honest, I want my debut to be as a starter," said Adam when contacted by Goal on Sunday.

When asked about his and his U22 teammates' hopes ahead of the Hong Kong tie, the defender responded that they are looking for guidance from their more senior teammates.

"We want to make an impact on the senior team and I hope the more senior players will show us the ropes.

"We need confidence to play with them, and I hope that the combination of the young and more senior players will produce a positive result against Hong Kong," noted Adam.

Lebanon are leading Group B of the qualifiers after three matches with seven points, followed by DPR Korea (2 points), Hong Kong (2) and Malaysia (1), although DPR Korea and Malaysia each have a game in hand.

The current international fixtures period had originally included a qualification match between DPR Korea and Malaysia in Pyongyang on October 5, but the clash has been postponed again due to recent political incidents in the region, to a yet-to-be-specified date.
