Adam Le Fondre proving a big loss for Bolton as he soars for Sydney FC

The English striker is proving a hit Down Under

Eight goals from eight games for Adam Le Fondre in Sydney FC colours has his former club Bolton kicking themselves for letting the striker go over the off-season.

With Le Fondre banging them in, Bolton have in comparison struck just 12 times from their first 19 games in the Championship with their strikers failing to fire in over two months.

Used primarily as a substitute late season, Le Fondre couldn't resist a call to play regularly in Australia with Bolton manager Phil Parkinson admitting he couldn't stand in his way but that he had no intention of offloading the striker himself.

"Adam had a good pre-season and out of the blue, completely out of the blue he said he’d been given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Parkinson told The Bolton News.

"Adam said his family really wanted to go abroad and would I let him go?

"I said to the chairman he wanted to leave and that it would be difficult to stand in his way. He had been a good lad for us and we respected that decision.

"It’s raking over old ground a bit. But he certainly wasn’t a player we pulled in and said ‘hey, we’ve had a call from Australia, do you fancy it?’ Myself and Ken literally knew nothing about it at all."

Le Fondre spent three seasons with Bolton across two separate stints scoring 21 goals.

Replacing last season's A-League top scorer, Bobo, the 31 year old is on track to give the Brazilian's record tally a run and hasn't shied away from his intentions.

"When I came I obviously researched the team, what the striker did last season, looking what I have to achieve," Le Fondre said earlier this month.

“It didn’t faze me, the fact that he scored that many goals.

“I look forward to it - it’s a challenge. I don’t want to match it. I want to better it."
