Acquah: Ghana not underrating Sierra Leone after Kenya setback

The midfielder says the Black Stars are leaving no stone unturned ahead of Thursday's Afcon qualifying fixture

With last month's shocking defeat to Kenya in mind, Ghana midfielder Afriyie Acquah wants the Black Stars to tread cautiously ahead of Thursday's clash with Sierra Leone in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.

The Black Stars are set to host the Leone Stars in a first leg tie at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, four days before the return encounter in Freetown.

A 1-0 loss to Kenya has left Kwesi Appiah's outfit tied on points with each of the other three teams in Group F ahead of matchday three's round of games.

"Football has evolved because nobody expected Kenya to beat us but it happened," Acquah told Happy FM.

"That's how football has become now and we have to live with it.

"We cannot go into the game over-confident.

"We should be cautious as they will be coming into the game with a plan to beat us.

"We have to take advantage of our home fans like the Kenyans did."

Ghana will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways, having opened the qualifying campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of Ethiopia.

The Walia Ibex, meanwhile, face Kenya in Group F's first matchday three fixture on Wednesday before the Black Stars take on the Leone Stars on Thursday,

The first and second-placed sides after the qualifiers secure automatic places for next year's Afcon, which will be hosted by Cameroon.
