Aaron Mooy the Premier League's best player right now

The in-form Aussie is flying high after a decisive double for the Terriers

It's a big claim, but Aaron Mooy is the Premier League's best player right now, according to Sky Sports power rankings at least.

The midfielder's double for Huddersfield on Monday has seen him rocket up the English broadcasters' power rankings list which takes into account 33 different statistics - all weighted differently depending on a player's position.

Mooy's performance against Wolves was statistically the second best of any player this season with the Aussie rising up 100 places to number one with 9,040 points as a result.

Behind him stand three Manchester City stars in Leroy Sane (8,931 pts), Raheem Sterling (8,244 pts) and David Silva (8,171 pts) with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold (8,067 pts) completing the top five.

While bagging his first goals in nearly a year for the Terriers, Mooy has been a consistently strong performer for the club and inevitably accrued some strong stats in the process.

This season he's made completed the 12th most crosses and 14th most tackles of any player in the league and averages 52 passes per game.

Mooy's good club form hasn't exactly translated to the international stage just yet, but Graham Arnold will be buoyed by his recent showing for the Terriers just six weeks out from the Asian Cup.

The 28-year-old started the Socceroos two most recent friendlies, playing in a notably advanced position against Lebanon in a 3-0 win.
