The Nigeria midfielder is set to come up against the Ivory Coast duo in the Africa Cup of Nations but believes his side's superior recent record should see them through

Nigeria midfielder John Obi Mikel says he is looking forward to facing former Chelsea team-mates Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou when his side face Ivory Coast.

The teams will do battle at the quarter-final stage of the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, but Mikel is sure he will get one over on his former colleagues.

“Well, it will be lovely to play against my former mates from Chelsea. Drogba has always lifted Ivory Coast and no doubt he will want to continue with that against Nigeria,” Mikel told Goal.com.

“It is going to be a tough game for both teams but I think we have had a better run against Ivory Coast in recent years, and that should be a motivating factor for all Nigerians,” he said.

Nigeria have beaten Ivory Coast in both of the sides' previous two Afcon meeetings.
