Terry, Lampard, Cole, Rooney, Walker & Dawson released from England squad ahead of Ghana friendly

England boss Fabio Capello could hand the armband to Gareth Barry but could also consider Jack Wilshere for the job
Following a vital 2-0 win over Wales on Saturday, Chelsea’s Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and John Terry as well as Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney and Tottenham Hotspur’s Michael Dawson have been allowed to return to their respective clubs ahead of the midweek Champions League games.

An announcement on the FA's website has revealed that the five Champions League stars, and Aston Villa defender Kyle Walker, have left the Three Lions squad and will not feature in the friendly against Ghana at Wembley.

Other Spurs player, namely Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Aaron Lennon, did not feature against Wales at the Millennium Stadium but are still in the squad.

Villa full-back Walker, on loan from Tottenham, is unavailable for the Ghana friendly due to a slight injury, revealed by the player on his Twitter page.

England boss Fabio Capello now has to make a decision on who will be his captain, as he will be without John Terry, to whom he handed back the captain’s armband for the Euro 2012 qualifying game, when the Three Lions face Ghana at Wembley on Tuesday.

Manchester City’s Gareth Barry has led England in previous games and is a likely option for Capello.

However, Arsenal 19-year-old starlet Jack Wilshere could be given a shot at captaining his home country.
