Vancouver Whitecaps prepared to lure Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves back to Canada

New MLS franchise set sights on injured star...
Major League Soccer newcomers Vancouver Whitecaps would be prepared to offer injury cursed Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves a return to Canada.

Hargreaves, 29, has failed to start a Premier League match in two years after falling victim to a chronic tendonitis problem in both knees.

Although surgeon Dr Richard Steadman confirmed last week his patient could be on the verge of a first team return, question marks still exist about his long-term United future as his contract is set to expire next summer.

The Whitecaps debut in the MLS for the 2011 season. Speaking to the Vancouver Sun, president Bob Lenarduzzi revealed he would be interesting in taking Hargreaves back to the country of his birth.

He said: "We'd love to entertain the idea.

"Given his background, if he was thinking of coming back or moving on, we'd certainly love to chat with him."
