Pre-season defeat for Manchester City to be 'expected', says Pellegrini

The Chilean is not worried by a 2-0 friendly loss to Supersport United and confirms that full-back Maicon will not be a part of his squad for the upcoming season
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says that he is not concerned after his first game in charge ended in a 2-0 defeat to Supersport United.

Two second-half goals from the South African side saw City begin their pre-season preparations in disappointing fashion but the Chilean claims that he "expected" the defeat despite the strong starting XI that he chose to field.

Pellegrini told reporters after the game: "The players were clear with what they had to do in this game. I spoke with them before the match and we had four or five days working together.

"We're not prepared to play the way we want them to play so this was a normal match for pre-season. I'm not worried and this is what we expected."

The new boss also once again emphasised his desire to bring in a number of new players by the end of July but confirmed that right-back Maicon will be ushered out of the club.

"We are not in a hurry to bring new players in but we are clear that we need two or three more before the season begins," Pellegrini commented.

"Maicon didn't come here to the pre-season and he will not be in the squad at Manchester City this year.

"It's difficult to say a date for any new arrivals but, before July finishes, I think we will have more players."
