Barcelona star Lionel Messi was visibly happy with his side's 5-0 thrashing of Villarreal in their La Liga opener, before praising the impact of Cesc Fabregas since his move from Arsenal.
The Argentina international picked up a second half brace, which, coupled with goals from Thiago Alcantara, Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez, gave Barca an impressive win in their first league match of the season.
"We [Messi and Fabregas] have known each other since we were kids," Messi told reporters. "Like Xavi and Andres [Iniesta], he [Fabregas] knows what it means to play at Barcelona."
Despite being without five of their defenders for the match, which forced coach Pep Guardiola to use a 3-4-3 formation, the Catalan club were dominant throughout the encounter, and Messi had nothing but praise for his side.
"We demonstrated we are doing fine," Messi said after the fixture. "The important thing is that we continue this way.
"Our summer recruits are important because they settled in quickly."
