Official: Real Madrid sign Werder Bremen midfielder Mesut Oezil subject to medical

German playmaker completes move to Spain...
Spanish giants Real Madrid have announced the signing of German international Mesut Oezil from Werder Bremen for a fee believed to be around €15 million (£12.4m).

The World Cup 2010 star had been linked with a move to Madrid throughout the summer and will link up with international team-mate Sami Khedira at the Bernabeu.

Oezil will undergo a medical on Wednesday ahead of the completing the move and Werder Bremen sporting director Klaus Allofs has wished him all the best at his new club.

Bild quotes him as saying: "We respect Mesut's wish to go now and take the next step in his career."

A statement on Real Madrid's official website read: "His unique touch, unmatched individual technique, excellent ball control and deadly last pass make the German midfielder one of the brightest up-and-coming stars in European football."

Earlier on Tuesday, the 21-year-old's father confirmed that they have agreed personal terms with Madrid and later on Allofs threatened that if Madrid wanted to sign Oezil, then they must do so before Wednesday or else they would include the playmaker in their squad for the Champions League first-leg playoff match against Sampdoria.

Oezil had just one year left on his contract with Werder and would have left the club on a free transfer next summer had a move not materialised.

Other top clubs from around Europe, including Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United were previously linked with signing the starlet.
