Icardi 'honoured' to play with Zanetti at Inter

The Argentine youngster admits his compatriot will leave "a big void in the footballing world" when he retires this summer, and was happy to dedicate a goal to him
Inter attacker Mauro Icardi has admitted that it has been an honour for him to play alongside Javier Zanetti this season.

The youngster joined Inter from Sampdoria in the summer of 2013 to team up with his compatriot and, as Zanetti prepares to call time on an illustrious playing career, Icardi admits the iconic Argentina defender will leave "a big void" in the game.

"It's an honour for us youngsters to play with a star like Zanetti," Icardi told Inter Channel.

"Being at a big club allows us young players to play alongside top stars. It's been emotional spending this year with Zanetti.

"Last year when I found out I was moving here I texted him and told him he should play on for another year.

"Fortunately I was able to dedicate a goal to him.

"He will leave behind a big void in the footballing world."

The 40-year-old will play his last game for Inter away against Chievo on Sunday, having opted to retire this summer following more than 600 appeaarances for the Nerazzurri and 145 international caps for Argentina.
