Marek Hamsik set to sign new Napoli contract on Monday

The president of the San Paolo outfit has revealed that the 24-year-old midfielder will pen an improved deal this week, and that he anticipates an exciting match against Juventus
Marek Hamsik is set to rubber-stamp a contract extension with Napoli, president Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed.

The Slovakia international has been a mainstay of the San Paolo side's midfield since joining the club from Brescia in 2007.

Speaking ahead of Napoli's Serie A clash against Juventus, De Laurentiis called on Hamsik to show his true colours as the club are about to offer him a new contract.

"If Hamsik wakes up and proves his worth [against Juventus], because he has been a bit off in the last few weeks, it would be a splendid introduction to the appointment we have on Monday regarding a contract extension," he told Corriere dello Sport.

The Napoli supremo went on to comment on Sunday's match, which will be crucial for his side's Scudetto chances as they sit five points off the top of the table.

"I am convinced it will be a very good game, as they have been in the last few years," De Laurentiis said.

"All the necessary ingredients are gathered, but we must discover the advantages Juventus get from not playing in midweek, and how much strain Wednesday's match [against Bayern Munich] has put on my players."
