Napoli's Serie A clash against Juventus called off due to heavy rain

The crunch match at the San Paolo is the latest victim of the persistent rain that has affected Italy, but Sunday's other Serie A matches should go ahead as planned
The Serie A match between Napoli and Juventus scheduled for Sunday evening at Stadio San Paolo has been called off.

The decision was made on Sunday morning after an emergency meeting at the Prefecture of Naples with the Protezione Civile, a national body which deals with exceptional events in Italy.

It was decided that the safety of the fans could not be guaranteed as several areas around the stadium are currently flooded.

The persistent downpour across the country had already claimed the lunchtime fixture between Genoa and Inter, but the six remaining Serie A matches should go aheadas planned.

Juventus are currently at the top of the Serie A standings, with 19 points from nine games, while Napoli are sixth, with five points fewer.
