Franz Beckenbauer says the poor quality of stadiums in Italy is a key reason why many players no longer want to play in Serie A.
The Germany legend also believes a major international tournament being held in the country could attract star players back to the league.
"Before, everybody wanted to play in Serie A, but this is clearly no longer the case," Beckenbauer was quoted as saying by Calciomercato.com.
"I think that stadiums play a big role in the decline of Italian football. The stadiums they have are simply not good enough. Italian football needs a big international tournament to freshen things up a bit."
Beckenbauer then moved on to discuss the upcoming match between Bayern Munich and Inter, and pointed out that Leonardo's men are very strong at the back.
He added: "Inter are a great team, especially at the back. They have never really played attacking football. They have always focused on their defence before thinking about going forward."
