Arjen Robben: New Bayern Munich deal is just a formality

The Dutch attacker has indicated that he is ready to sign a contract extension with the Bavarians and admitted that his side are not yet at the level of Barcelona
Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben has revealed that he is on the verge of signing a new contract with the club.

The winger's contract with Bayern expires in the summer of 2013 and despite being plagued by injuries since arriving at the Allianz Arena, the 27-year-old is determined to sign a new deal.

"This [contract extension] is a formality," he told Suddeutsche Zeitung. "If there were five or 10 clubs as big as Bayern, then you could say: 'Okay, I might have another goal.'

"But Bayern are already at the top, this is one of the best clubs in the world."

Having won the Group of Death in the Champions League, Bayern are strong contenders to win the competition, but Robben says that his side are still some distance away from Barcelona.

"Sometimes people say, 'we are able to do this or Bayern are close' but to be honest, I do not like talking about it, because you cannot tell the truth," the Dutchman explained.

"To reach Barcelona is still a big step for us. We are not there yet."
