Schalke coach Ralf Rangnick has backed Raul to enjoy another successful spell in the Bundesliga as they prepare to meet Koln.
The striker was involved in the 3-0 opening day loss to Stuttgart last week, but struggled and
speculative reports suggested he had been distracted by the possibility of a move to Malaga before the end of the transfer window.
Rangnick, however, has already insisted the former Real Madrid man will not be leaving the club and has now responded to criticism of the 34-year-old.
"I don't get the impression that he is being lazy. He's acting perfectly normally," he said.
"He's having the same problems as last year. That he drops back into midfield again.
"It is not necessary, but it's part of his game."
Raul joined Schalke in 2010 on a two-year contract from Real Madrid after spending 16 years at the Bernabeu.
