thumbnail Hello,

Our man in Spain, Phil Kitromilides, believes that there is value is backing the 31-year-old Spain international to move to another club in the Primera Division this summer

Given his status as the highest-scoring player in the history of Spanish international football, it is a little surprising that there is not a bigger collective continental scramble for David Villa's signature.

Seemingly surplus to requirements at Barcelona, where the last two seasons have seen injury and lack of favour limit his game time, Villa remains one of Europe's best finishers. His age, 31, and aforementioned propensity for injury are the main considerations for any clubs, yet surely El Guaje can still be an asset to any number of top class sides.

David Villa to sign for before 1st September 2013

Odds from BetVictor
Fiorentina 3/4
Tottenham 4/5
Arsenal 2/1
Atletico Madrid 10/1
Manchester City/PSG 25/1
Leading the way in BetVictor's book on where Villa will be playing come September 1 are Fiorentina, with the Italian side having seemingly stolen a march on other potential suitors in the last few days.

Relative proximity to home, beautiful surroundings and a straight forward adapation process could all prove appealing to Villa, with the Viola priced at 3/4 (1.75) to be his next destination.

Just behind them in the betting are Tottenham at 4/5 (1.80), without doubt an infinitely less picturesque setting than Tuscany. Yet while the North Londoners (like Fiorentina) cannot offer Champions League football, a final chance to ply his trade in the continent's most competitive league could in theory tempt the man from Asturias.

Next in the market come Arsenal at 2/1 (3.00), although the Gunners' interest has seemingly cooled over the last few weeks with their striking priorities appearing to lie elsewhere.

Also offered are Liverpool at 14/1 (15.00), with Manchester City and PSG both available at 25/1 (26.00). Yet perhaps a smart option for an outside bet are Atletico Madrid at 10/1 (11.00).

Villa is known to be an extremely homely person, not naturally inclined to leave to play abroad. Furthermore, he has a young family to consider whom he may be loath to uproot to another country.

The opportunity to play in the capital, with a team in the Champions League and one looking for a big-name forward to replace the departed Falcao, could be too good for the 31-year-old to refuse.

The sticking point will, naturally, be wages but, if Atleti can agree terms with Villa, the move could be a great fit for both parties. At 10/1 (11.00) it offers considerable value and looks like a decent option for a small investment.
