Charlton - Crystal Palace Betting Preview: Contrasting fortunes point to home win for Powell's men

It’s been a mixed start for Charlton on their return to the Championship with five points from four games. But they’ll be hoping for better when they take on former landlords Crystal Palace at the Valley.

There’s every reason for Charlton to be confident. Four of those five points have been picked up at home and just look at the opposition so far – Birmingham, Leicester, Hull and Nottingham Forest.

Addicks boss Chris Powell will be targeting this one as a home win and you can back Charlton to get the job done in front of their own fans at 10/11 (1.91) with Bet365.

The reason for that optimism is because Crystal Palace’s form has been abysmal. After finishing last season with a nine-game sequence without a win, they began this campaign with three straight losses.

But that run ended with a home victory over Sheffield Wednesday last time out and that will give some encouragement to Dougie Freedman’s men ahead of this one.

Crystal Palace can be backed to win here at 3/1 (4.00) with Bet365. The draw is available at 5/2 (3.50).

In the goalscorers market, Yann Kermorgant could be worth considering given that he has netted in three of his last four home games for Charlton and is available at 6/1 (7.00) to score first.

Glen Murray scored within a minute last time out and can be backed at 9/1 (10.00) to get the opener here for the Eagles.

Ricardo Fuller is the value bet choice, however, as he prepares for his first home games as a Charlton player. The new arrival from Stoke may have dodgy knees these days but he also has pedigree and could well be a factor from the bench. Back him to score last at 5/1 (6.00) with Bet365.

But for the pick of the bets here it is impossible to overlook the stark contrast between these two sides. Palace are yet to win a league game away from home in 2012. Charlton have lost just two of their last 27 league games at home.

The best bet here is to back a Charlton win at 10/11 (1.91) with Bet365.
