Thursday's SPL Bet of the Day: Celtic should sweep St Johnstone aside

Scottish champions Celtic welcome St Johnstone to Celtic Park on Thursday night and, following a 3-0 crushing of Old Firm rivals Rangers on Sunday, another emphatic victory looks to be on the cards for the Hoops when Steve Lomas’ struggling side visit Glasgow.

The hosts have already wrapped up the league title this term but Neil Lennon will be keen to ensure that his side round off the campaign in style and they are available at 2/7 (1.29) with Bet365 to chalk up a 16th home league victory of the season on Thursday.

The visitors have picked up just one point in their last four Scottish Premier League matches and were soundly beaten when they went down to a 5-1 drubbing against Motherwell on Saturday.

Lomas’ side will also need to do without top scorer Francisco Sandaza who is serving a three match suspension. The enormity of the task facing St Johnstone is reflected by the price and Saints are available at a massive 10/1 (11.0) with Bet365 while the same firm makes the draw a 4/1 (5.0) chance.

St Johnstone’s last visit to Celtic Park was only a month ago when they were defeated 2-0 and it is hard to imagine that an easier evening lies ahead for the men from Perth on this occasion.

If St Johnstone are to take anything from the match, they will look to former Celtic striker Cillian Sheridan to fire them to victory. The frontman has had a decent first season at St Johnstone having joined the club on loan from CSKA Sofia in the summer. Sheridan is chalked up at 18/1 (19.0) with Bet365 while the dangerous Liam Craig is 25/1 (26.0) with the same firm to score first.

Celtic, of course, have had few problems in front of goal having scored 78 times in the league so far this term and top scorer Gary Hooper is just 2/1 (3.0) with Bet365 to score first while Kris Commons, who netted his first league goal of the campaign against Rangers on Sunday is 5/1 (6.0) with Bet365 to notch the opener here. The former Nottingham Forest man looks a good outside value bet.

As ever when Celtic are at home, goals can be expected and the 5/6 (1.83) from Bet365 on the Hoops (-1) to win on the handicap represents outstanding value and punters should snap up that price with vigour.
