The Scottish outfit went into the second leg in Turin needing a miracle after their 3-0 loss at Parkhead in the opening fixture, but ended up losing the game 2-0.

And preparations did not start in the best way for the Nigeria international, who was criticised for his performance in the away match, after he missed the team bus from the hotel and was left to catch up by taxi.

The boss confirmed that the club have dealt with the 24-year-old's actions internally but, with the defender starting on the bench, indicated it did not have any influence on his decision.

"There was disciplinary action taken against him but it wouldn't have affected the team selection [for the game]," the 41-year-old told reporters.

Ambrose replaced Victor Wanyama at half-time during the loss after the midfielder picked up a hamstring problem.

The Scottish Premier League leaders were defeated by an efficient display from the Italian giants, who netted once in each half at Juventus Stadium on Wednesday night to cruise into the quarter-finals.
