Raul aiming to win fourth Champions League title: I came to Schalke to win trophies

Former Real Madrid great and three-time Champions League winner Raul insists Schalke are serious contenders for Europe's most prestigious prize, AS reports.

"When you come to a club like Schalke, [you] do so [to] lift trophies," Raul said, insisting he did not make the move to the Bundesliga outfit to wind down his sensational career.

The Spaniard has lifted Europe’s most coveted trophy three times already with the Spanish giants and has notched an all-time record of 71 goals in the competition, and has expressed his desire to win it once more.

"I feel a great emotion, [to] crown my first season here with a title would be fantastic," he added.

Despite the 33-year-old entering the twilight years of his career, his affection for the game has not diminished and nor has his humility.

He continued: "I'm not a star. I am a football player, a team player. Thus people see me, the fans. I love playing games, but also training. A player does not make a team."

Raul also took the time to reflect on his former club and single out one their rising stars, Mesut Oezil, for praise.

"Sure, they're doing very well," he said. "They also have the confidence of the coach, which is very important. Oezil is a fantastic player [at] a very high level."

Schalke face Inter in the Champions League quarter-finals, travelling to Italy on April 5 before hosting the second leg eight days later.
