Sir Alex Ferguson maintains Nemanja Vidic was right choice as Manchester United captain

Ryan Giggs has resumed training, confirms boss
Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Nemanja Vidic is the right man to captain Manchester United.

The Red Devils have been skippered by Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand over the last couple of years, but injury problems for the trio prompted Ferguson to hand the armband to Vidic on a permanent basis.

"We had to choose someone we felt was going to be fit and playing every week," Ferguson told reporters.

"That is difficult when you rotate the squad the way we do.

"We felt Vidic was closest to that. And he is a defender and I always think they make better captains."

The Serbia international will lead United in the Champions League game against Bursaspor, with Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville as well as Ferdinand having missed out on the trip to Turkey.

"Ryan started training last Thursday," said Ferguson.

"It was just general stuff with the physios. He should be ready in 10 to 14 days but it is possible he could be ready for the [Manchester] derby [on Nevember 10]."

A victory over Bursaspor will all but guarantee United a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Vidic has enjoyed another solid start to the season in a United shirt. He is now rated by the Castrol Rankings as the 59th best player currently plying his trade in one of the top five leagues in Europe.
