Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho has congratulated Sir Alex Ferguson after Manchester United won the Premier League title on Monday.

13/8 Manchester United are 13/8 with Paddy Power to win the Premier League title next season
Robin van Persie's 33-minute first-half hat-trick sealed a 3-0 win over Aston Villa and a 20th league crown for the Red Devils - and a 13th under Sir Alex's guidance.

And Mourinho - who enjoyed a three-year rivalry with United while in charge of Chelsea - has congratulated the English giants and, namely, his old foe.

"What Ferguson did this season is what he has done all his life: winning," Mourinho told reporters.

"Sometimes it's not consecutively, because that would be impossible, but his career has been that - to win.

"I want to congratulate him but it is not a surprise to me or to United fans that Ferguson is champion again."
