Hughton insists Van Wolfswinkel claims of Norwich targets were misquoted

Quotes attributed to the Dutchman had claimed that the Canaries were looking to replace much of their attacking players in the summer, but the manager has dismissed them

Norwich City manager Chris Hughton claims Ricky van Wolfswinkel was misquoted by Dutch media after seeing his new signing list potential areas for investment in the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old Netherlands international secured a move to Carrow Road from Sporting Lisbon in a reported £8 million deal last week, agreeing terms on a four-year contract.

Van Wolfswinkel appeared to reveal Hughton's summer transfer targets to be an attacking midfielder and two wide players in an interview with Dutch magazine, Voetbal International, and although the Norwich boss made it evident he was looking to strengthen next season, he claims the players quotes are not true.

"I did hear the reports and they are certainly not accurate," Hughton told reporters.

"Of course we will very much look to improve the squad. It is probably quite obvious the area we haven't done as well as we would like this season and that is the ability to score goals and win matches.

"It isn't rocket science they are key areas we would be looking at. Ricky is an indication of what we wanted to bring in - a forward with a very good goalscoring record.

"Certainly no specific individuals were spoken about or positions."
