thumbnail Hello,

The Honduran was dismissed against Newcastle, and the Football Association have elected to uphold the decision of referee Mike Jones despite a Latics appeal

Maynor Figueroa will miss Wigan's Premier League clash with relegation rivals QPR after failing to have the red card picked up against Newcastle rescinded.

The Honduran defender was dismissed just 12 minutes into the match at St James' Park for a foul on Papiss Cisse - a decision furiously contested by Roberto Martinez and the Latics bench.

Demba Ba scored the resulting penalty, and Newcastle eventually triumphed 3-0, and Wigan appealed the decision to send off Figueroa, but the Football Association have backed referee Mike Jones.

"We are disappointed, clearly, because we felt we put forward an excellent case," Martinez told the club’s official website.

"We will draw a line under the incident, and continue our preparations for Saturday."

Despite being without Figueroa, team-mate Adrian Lopez is backing Wigan to return to winning ways against QPR on Saturday.

"It was very difficult playing against Newcastle with ten men but, that is behind us now," he added.

"When a result happens that is out of our hands then what we really want to do is focus on the next game against QPR.

"The whole team has a great relationship, so getting back to our usual positive selves will be easy to do."
