Sunderland defender Danny Rose has revealed his ambition to get forward more and build a strong partnership with winger James McClean.

The left-back, who joined from Premier League rivals Tottenham on a season-long loan deal this summer, has started four games for the Wearsiders, and after quickly settling in to life in the North East, has spoken of his desire to contribute more to the Black Cats' attack.

He told Sunderland's official website: "For the first two games I think I could have got forward a lot more than I did.

"The gaffer told me he wanted me to get forward a bit more and that's a part of the game I really enjoy.


"I'm going to try and [get forward] in the games to come."

The 22-year-old also expressed his excitement at the prospect of constructing a partnership with Irishman McClean, who has impressed many with his exciting performances since breaking into the first team last season.

Rose added: "I'm still getting used to James and how he plays.

"I'm working out the best time to get forward and I want to feed him the ball as much as possible as he's a dangerous left-sided player."
