Arsenal investigate alleged racial abuse of Newcastle's Tiote

Arsenal have confirmed that they are investigating reports that Newcastle United midfielder Cheikh Tiote was racially abused by a fan during Monday night's match at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners emerged victorious as Thomas Vermaelen's late goal sealed a 2-1 win in the Premier League clash.

The club confirmed that Sky Sports cameras picked up pictures of a member of the crowd pointing at the Ivorian and mouthing something which was "highly inappropriate".

An Arsenal representative said: "The club take a zero-tolerance [approach] towards events of this nature and will be investigating the incident."

Arsenal are 17/2 with Bet365 to beat Everton 2-1 in their next Premier League match on March 21.

The images were seen after midfielder Tomas Rosicky missed a chance in the 68th minute of the Gunners' triumph.
