Phil Jones hopes for redemption in the eyes of Manchester United fans following victory over Wolves

Phil Jones hopes that Manchester United have redeemed themselves in the eyes of their supporters following the 4-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Red Devils bowed out of the Champions League after losing their final group game 2-1 to Basel, and must now compete in the Europa League for the first time since the tournament was renamed.

Following their defeat to the Swiss side, Sir Alex Ferguson's charges bounced back in the Premier League by beating Wolves at Old Trafford as Wayne Rooney and Nani bagged a brace each.

"We owed one to all the fans who travelled out there [to Basel]," said Jones.

"Hopefully we showed them what we are all about with a great performance."

United are now two points behind Manchester City, but have played a game more than the league leaders.
