Manchester United defender Phil Jones adamant that Manchester City can slip up under pressure: ‘I don’t care how good you are, don’t write us off’

Manchester United defender Phil Jones is adamant that Manchester City can be caught from their position at the top of the Premier League if enough pressure is put on them.

The 19-year-old believes that his side can close the five-point gap between them and their local rivals even if they are still behind at Christmas, despite the Red Devils being on the end of a 6-1 thrashing by the leaders at Old Trafford in October.

“City have done fantastically this season, I am not taking anything away from them,” the ex-Blackburn youngster told skysports.com.

“But they do have some tough games coming up.

“I don't care how good you are, teams can be put under pressure. This is a difficult league to be in.

“It would be nice to reach top spot by Christmas, but it is not essential.

“Don't be writing us off if we are not there by January.”

If United defeat Newcastle on Saturday they will shorten the divide to just two points, with City set to kick off the following day away to Liverpool, with Sunday’s game one of several tricky fixtures on the horizon for Roberto Mancini’s side, including matches against Chelsea and Arsenal.
