Yohan Cabaye believes he can be the man to fire Newcastle United into Europe this season

Newcastle United new boy Yohan Cabaye is aiming for Europe with the Magpies and believes he can be the one to score the goals to make his continental hopes become reality.

The Frenchman arrived at St James' Park this summer from Lille, a team already qualified for the Champions League, but the midfielder chose the move to the north east over a chance to play in Europe’s elite competition.

Newcastle face Wolves on Saturday and have enjoyed a bright start to the season so far and are currently unbeaten, with three wins and as many draws from their opening six fixtures.

Cabaye has impressed since joining Alan Pardew’s outfit and insists he can fire the team into Europe this season.

"I wanted to discover the Premier League and see if I could play here. Newcastle were the only club to offer me the opportunity," Cabaye told the Daily Mail.

"It is a great club and for me that was enough. I believe we can get Newcastle into Europe.

"I like to shoot from long distances and I like to score goals. I am pretty sure my first goal will come soon."
