Chelsea have admitted defeat in their efforts to wrap up a deal for Cesena midfielder Marco Parolo, according to Sky Sport 24.

The Italian news channel reported that the two clubs exchanged dialogue on Wednesday regarding a deal for the 26-year-old, but to no avail it has emerged.

It has also been claimed that attacking midfielder Gael Kakuta was offered to the Serie A club, but the young Frenchman's wage demands scuppered any possible deal.

However, Chelsea will reportedly send scouts to watch the ex-Verona midfielder in action as the season wears on, with another round of talks being lined up for January.

Parolo has enjoyed a hugely successful breakout season, contributing to Cesena's salvation in their first season back in the Italian top-flight, and earning a debut international cap for his native Italy.
