Official: Arsenal sign young defender Carl Jenkinson from Charlton Athletic

Arsenal have officially announced the signing of young defender Carl Jenkinson from Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

The teenager featured on nine occasions for the League One side and sufficiently impressed to earn a move to the north London club.

The 19-year-old can play either at right-back or as a centre-half, and plays for the Finland's Under-21 side.

The youngster originally started off playing for England at the U-17 level, as he was born in the town of Harlow.

But having a Finnish mother meant that he also qualified to play under another banner, which is a choice he made when he featured for the U-19 side before going on to represent Finland at the U-21 level.

Apart from the signing of Jenkinson, the Gunners also announced that youngsters Benik Afobe, Chuks Aneke and Oguzhan Ozyakup have all committed their futures to the club.

A statement on the club's official website reads: "Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that promising defender Carl Jenkinson, 19, has arrived from League One side Charlton Athletic.

"His signing was confirmed as young Gunners Benik Afobe, Chuks Aneke and Oguzhan Ozyakup also pledged their futures to the club."
