Edin Dzeko set to complete £27.4m Manchester City move in next 24 hours but will not make debut until Wolves game

Edin Dzeko is expected to finalise the formalities of his medical today and complete a £27.4 million switch to Manchester City in the next 24 hours, UK can reveal.

But the Bosnia striker is not scheduled to be included in the City squad for Sunday’s FA Cup tie away to Leicester City.

It is anticipated that Dzeko will be unveiled to City fans ahead of the home Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on January 15 and make his debut against Mick McCarthy’s team.

The 24-year-old will move to Eastlands from Wolfsburg after the two clubs agreed a fee last weekend that is subject to add-ons based on City’s future success, including participation in next season’s Champions League.

The initial fee is smaller than the German club’s valuation because City will pay all the money in cash up front, which is why Wolfsburg preferred to do business with the Manchester club rather than Juventus, Milan and Bayern Munich, the other three clubs seriously pursuing the big forward.

Barring any last-minute hitches, it is understood that Dzeko will put pen to paper on a five-year-contract.
