Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has declared he will sign a maximum of one player during the January transfer window, but only if injured defender Thomas Vermaelen suffers a set-back during his rehab.
The Belgian international, who scored seven league goals for Arsenal last season, has been out with an Achilles injury since August of last year and is expected to be back by the end of this month, but Wenger will only dip into the market if his comeback is delayed.
“In the offensive department, [a new signing] is completely excluded. In midfield, completely excluded," Wenger told reporters.
"Don't forget we have a big squad with Diaby injured, Lansbury and Ramsey are coming back too. He [Ramsey] played a full game with Nottingham Forest yesterday.
"With the goalkeepers, I stand as firm as ever.
“At the back, it just depends on Vermaelen. I am just waiting to know more about him, and then at the end of January we will have to make a decision.”
