Aston Villa have confirmed that Gary McAllister has agreed to become assistant manager following the appointment of Gerard Houllier.
McAllister was assistant manager to Gordon Strachan at Middlesborough before the appointment was revealed.
The Scot had been identified as a target for Houllier to join his set up at Villa Park following the relationship the two built when the Frenchman signed McAllister as a player during his time at the helm of Liverpool.
McAllister was a key player in Liverpool's treble of the Uefa Cup, FA Cup and League Cup in 2001 which would prove to be his and Houllier's finest hour for the club.
Joining McAllister as part of the backroom staff at Villa Park will be Rafa Gonzales as goalkeeping coach and Robert Duverne, who Houllier worked with at Lyon, and who will be appointed as fitness coach.
The most notable addition alongside McAllister will be Gordon Cowans who made a total of 527 appearances for the club.
